About my ancestral Country!
The ethnic food festival is coming up and it is a very
exciting day. We will be working a great deal for the next two weeks to get
ready.
Imagine if you were
visiting the country of your ancestors. Write two or three paragraphs describing your
country. (You can write from your research notes if you want).
Please write in
a “journey” format. Write as if you were telling a story.
Due date for this assignment is Wednesday, November 27, 2013
You can also add information about the interview you took and explain why your family "immigrated" to America. Then explain in a "journey" (story) format about the country they came from. Make it interesting. It will be fun to read all about your ancestral country. Good Luck and have fun. Involve your parents/grandparents in this project too. Make it a "Family" Blog assignment.

The next day we went to Mahatma Gandhi grave. Mahatma means great soul in the Indian language Sankrit. He was a famous Indian politician. Indians call him the father of their nation.

ReplyDelete"It FINALLY landed" I said as my mom, dad, and I came out the plane. We walked an then I said Why don't we get a rickshaw or auto (the type of taxi in India.) "Why that's a great idea Pannun" said my dad. We took a rickshaw because it was bigger and settled down we went to the TajMahal and it was great. Later on we went to the golden gate it was fun too. We stayed in my uncle's house for a week and then sadly had to go back.
Did you go in the rickshaw to see the Taj Mahal? How long did you visit India?
DeleteI didn't it is fiction
DeleteOh Ok. Did you ever see the Taj Mahal?

ReplyDelete'' Mom can I go to Kenya one day?'' I asked my mom one day. ''Why don't we go today!'' my mom exclaimed. So we rushed and packed our stuff and left. After we got through security we went on a plane that looked a little weird on the outside because it wasn't from america. I was so happy I that the plane was one second but it was actually a few hours. Once we got there we the first thing I said was I wanted to go to the capital of Kenya, Nairobi. There had just been a mall shooting so my mom told me to be careful and not to talk to any strangers. Then I wanted to go to Mount Kenya, one of the tallest mountains in Kenya. Once we finish that we watched the beautiful sunset then we left. When we got back it was late so I went to bed. The next morning at breakfast I told my mom ''I have always wanted to go to China.'' ''Not today we are having a stay home day in america.'' my mom replied tiredly.
I liked your story Leya.I liked how you started your journey.
DeleteI was looking outside the window of the plane. Finally I thought,we landed in India. It was really crowded and hot in the airport.
ReplyDeleteThe next day my family and I went to the taj mahal. It was hot there, and I was wearing full sleves!!! While we walked in my mom told me that the taj was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.she also told me that the construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653,and it took thosands of workers to build it. The next day we went to the farms. On the way i saw a lot af herders herding goats.I also saw a ton of fields.I asked my dad what were those plants inthe field. He told me that it was cotten. He said that cotten was one of the popular things made in farms in India along with rice and wheat.Soon we had to go back to America.hauh.Don't get me wrong, I love America but I also LLLOOOVVVEE India.
Yes, Taj Mahal is beautiful and Shah Jahan did a good job getting it built. Glad you like America and India.
DeleteI finally landed in India after an exhausting trip. It was really hot so I took of my jacket. I landed in the capital of India, New Delhi because it was close to where my relatives lived. When I was at the airport, my parents exchanged some of our dollars to rupees because that was India's currency. One dollar equaled to 62.48 rupees. I couldn't wait to meet my relatives! While I was on my way to my relatives house I saw one of the landmarks in India, India Gate. My Dad told me that under India gate there is a fire under India Gate that never ever stops. This whole landmark is for all the soldiers in India who died in world war 1 and the afghan wars.I found out that India's population is about 1.2 Billion! India has the 2nd most population in the world!
ReplyDeleteWhen I got at the house I met all my relatives and it was really fun. I was really stinky from the trip so I took a shower and then a question popped in my head. Why did my parents and I immigrate to America from India? So I went to my parents and they told me they immigrated for more and better job options. I could not wait to eat one of the traditional foods in India and one the best foods for my belly... Naan ( a type of bread ) with Paneer ( cottage cheese ).It was a good dinner. We all went to bed. The next day we had to attend a wedding. All of the boys wore Kurta Pajamas
and all the girls wore saris. The music I heard was based on mood, emotions, season, or time of day. When I saw somebody dancing, the dancer used high stylized hand, foot, and arm gestures. It was pretty fun and the wedding.
The three weeks of my stay in India just flew by and I had to go back to America.I was really sad that I had to go back but I had the most awesome three weeks of my life! I CAN NOT WAIT TO GO BACK TO INDIA!!!!
Wow! Glad you had fun in India. I have been to all the landmarks you mentioned. New Delhi is a beautiful place. Glad you got to see an Indian wedding. Weddings are a lot of fun!

ReplyDeleteI took a long flight to reach India. We landed in Chennai. I saw my Grandparents at the airport. I was happy to see them too! We visited many of our relatives. We also visited many temples. Then we went to the beach and had a great time. I was amazed to see the trains, busses and autorickshaws. Then we took a train ride to another state called Kerala. It was raining in Kerala. There was also a lot of greenery there. It was time to go back to the America. My parents bought me some chains and bangles. I also bought some gifts for my U.S. friends and Teachers. It was time for me to go back and meet new friends and Teachers. I'm looking forward to coming back to India again!
I will be visiting Chennai this summer and will visit the temples you mentioned. Glad you bought some bangles and chains. There is a lot of greenery in India. Hope to visit India again!

ReplyDeleteAs I look down I see clear aqua blue water around the island. As we get closer I was able to see the coral reef. The warm weather was so beautiful as we landed at the Nadi International airport it was about 72 degree's.
My mom said we have to travel by car to Suva City which is the Capital of Fiji Island,on the way we stopped the Municipal local market to get souvenir and see the local vendors selling local food, which is seafood ,coconut, casava etc.
Once we reached Suva we went to see the Prime Minister's house from the outside, though I was dancing the Gangnam Style the guard did not move.
After visiting the couple of historical building like the court house and the Parliament house which date back from 10 October 1970 when Fiji became independent from United Kingdom. Then we headed off to eat some local food -lots of seafood made in coconut milk and casava with dessert (Pudini).
Believe it or not Hollywood made it to Fiji Island, one very famous movie shot there was Cast Away.
It was a short and sweet trip around the small Viti-Levu Island with the total population same as Boston about 600,000.
Well time to head back home to USA,from the paradise island "FIJI"
I looked out the plain and hoped that I would be close to the India airport and I was!I got filled with excitement. My mom and I were picking up are luggage. My grandpa was waiting for us. We finally reached him and went in his car.
ReplyDeleteThe next day we went to this amusement park and I got to ride on a chairlift! When I was riding on the chair lift I got a perfect view of the ground. After five minutes the chairlift ride was over. It was very exiting.
It was sad because I was leaving India. I was very sad. I said by to my friends and they said by back. Then I drove to the Indian airport and said by to India. I slowly went in the India airport..

ReplyDeleteMy trip to India to attend my cousin's wedding-
Last year, I visited India. It was a wonderful trip and I had a lot of fun! Every year I visit India but this year was special because I was going to attend my cousin’s marriage in India. I was excited because I never saw an Indian wedding before. We landed on Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi. We claimed our baggage and came out of the airport. My Grand Parents were waiting outside to receive us. As I was going to my maternal parents’ house by taxi, I saw the India Gate. It was really dark outside because it was night time in India. As I was looking outside of my window, I saw a lot of people riding on rickshaws, autos, motorcycles, bicycles and scooters. When I reached home I met my maternal aunt (Masi). My aunt had made delicious food for me. After I had dinner, my maternal grandfather brought ice-cream for me. After that I went to sleep.
The next morning we packed our suitcase and hired a taxi to go to my paternal Grandparents house in Jaipur, where the wedding was going to take place. While on the way, I saw Amber Fort. It is one of the principal tourist attractions in the Jaipur area, located high on a hill. It is most beautiful fort and the pride of Jaipur. By the time, we reach home, it was almost 10pm. I met with my grandmother, paternal uncle, aunt and cousins. They were very happy to see us. We were tired and had our dinner and went to bed.
Next day, the cousin wedding celebration started. Indian weddings are much filled with rituals and celebrations that continue for several days. Generally, anywhere between 100 to 10,000 people attend the Indian wedding. Sangeet (Music Dance Party) was the big party, the night before the wedding, which included about a dozen Bollywood dance numbers, mostly performed by bride and groom family members. The wedding was in a five star hotel in Jaipur. Hotel was well decorated and I never saw such a beautiful decoration before. After all customs were done, we had yummy food containing more than 20 dishes. It was one of the most beautiful, extravagant, joyous weddings I have had the pleasure to attend.
Next day, we went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz.
I had a memorable exciting time in India!

ReplyDeleteThe fantastic trip
I quickly got off the plane. I helped my mom carry the bags to my grandfather's car. They were so happy to see us. We saw terrific sights on the way home. When we reached we were so tired that we fell on the bed and soon we fell asleep.
The next day, we toured to marvelous places such as the Taj Mahal, the Golden Temple, the India Gate, and the Red Fort. Actually we went to these places in about three weeks. I didn't notice that time was going by so quicly and before we knew it we had to go! We were so sad :( We said goodbye to every family there. We sat on the plane and the plane took off...

ReplyDeleteIt was time to go to India. I didn't want to go because I wasn't ready to miss my summer in America. It was time to go to the airport. This year I am going with my cousins to India. Hopefully I will enjoy. We waited until our plane was announced. We all got on the plane and sat to our seat number. Plane ride was fun but here comes the more fun part. We got off the plane and feel the hot breeze on my face. I saw my grandparents and they were glad we were here. The next day we flew to the capital of India, New Delhi. The first place we visited was the India Gate, it is a memorial for the soldiers who fought in world war I. Next we saw Gandhi's grave, he was the father of the nation. The next day flew by. We saw the Taj Mahal, it was built by the Mughal emperor King Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. My visit to India was great. I can’t wait till next summer to visit India again.

ReplyDeleteLast summer I went to India.I was so exited to see my reletives! After I landed I took a nice long refereshing bath since I was stinky from the plane ride.My grand father took me to the Chaar Minaar and told me that it was built 400 years ago. Then took me too the Taj Mahaal that was built buy Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz Mahal.Time went so fast that I had to leave back to the USA.
I Had Such A Fun Time In India!!!!!!!!!!:]
"EVERYBODY WE ARE GOING TO LAND IN INDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'.The pilot blasted his voice at us.I said "Amma we finally landed it took like a trillion years."My mom said," Get some good sleep we are visiting lots of awesome places tomorrow".
ReplyDeleteThe next day I was dreaming that we went to the Taj Mahal, one of the really popular places in India just like the other landmarks like the Ajanta Caves. But in my dream I was dreaming that I met LeBron James there and I was singing my favorite song radioactive. He also was staring at me thinking that why was the kid singing a song when he came to India instead of visiting all the other places like the golden gate which is a very nice place and exploring the languages like Hindi and Tamil and much more.
So after that my dad woke me up by shouting at me.I woke up I dressed for the big day in India I went down I saw the breakfeast I saw dosa that is a food in India that many people in India eat.I was eating dosa and in the middle my mom said "Let us talk about India's independence" . I replied "India got independence by using non violence against the british and by listening to Mahatma Gandi. My mom said "I said let us talk about independence not you talk about India not only you.I said "Sorry amma. So after that we were late to go to the Taj Mahal. It was beautiful like heaven.I might have not met LeBron James but the place was so huge that thousands of Lebron James would even fit in there.
Next,I went to the golden temple it was filled with gold I wanted to get the gold but it was not allowed.I was wearing a dhoti that many men wear.I went to a restaurant I ate naan and garlic bread it was yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.I ate it and that was good. But the sad thing is that my mom was packing up.So I said "Why are you packing up"in an Indian accent because I was in India so long. She said we are leaving I was so sad I said " Maybe a another time." After that I said "Can we go to Kenya now."My dad said "NO WAY".I said "Okay."

I saw cows and stray dogs.I saw a funky looking cab,it has three wheels, has no seat belts and no doors! India has a population of 1.2 billion people,I read it online at a library.
India is amazing! I think that i will defiantly come here again.
Today is the last day,I am going right now,I say goodbye and tata and leave.Once i reach home I write a story, and here i publish it.

My Trip to India:
ReplyDeleteFinally, The day is here, the day I am going to India. I was very excited to visit my Grand Parents and cousins .On July 15’2012, We flew to india on Emirates Airlines via Dubai to Hyderabad .
Hyderabad known as “ City of Nawabs” is the capital city of Andhra Pradesh , India. It has a lot of historical places. I visited Charminar which was built in 1591 by a Mughal king. I wished we could have stayed more time in the Charminar but at the same time I wanted to visit the Taj Mahal.
From Hyderabad, we took a train that had bunk beds on it to Agra to visit Taj Mahal which is one of the seven wonders of the world. We went to visit the Taj Mahal next day. I learned that Shah Jahan was a famous king who built the Taj Mahal for his wife Mumtaz . It was way too hot outside. We all wanted to go inside. We also were hungry. I smelled some delicious food across the street. We all ate the famous Agra sweet called petha.
Then we went on the train back to Andhra Pradesh, but in between we stopped at Tirupathi. We visited lord venkateshwara temple which was located on the top of seven hills in Tirumala. It was a exciting journey through the mountains.
After the visit to tirupathi, we returned back to Hyderabad. We visited our native village and had fun at the mango gardens.
Finally, the day came to go back home to U.S.A. I didn’t want to go back, but I didn’t want to miss my Livingston Park friends either !!.
